Who eats the most meat?

There is a clear link between the income of a country and meat consumption

How efficient is meat?

Feed conversion efficiency measures how many kilos of meat are produced for every kilo of feed provided.

Insects have the highest feed efficiency while beef has the lowest.

Breeding allows for an increase in efficiency, but at a cost. A reduction in the biodiversity of a certain species.

Alternative food sources would allow us to retain the biodiversity of animals, while still producing enough food for the population.

These include:

  • aquatic options such as spirulina and chlorella
  • terrestrial options such as larvae and insects
  • man made options such as cultured meat or lab grown milk
