Music by Phinoshey and Achi3ng. Selected by the [**British Council**](britishcouncil.org) and WWF UK as a creative commission for the [**#COP26**](https://ukcop26.org/) Global Climate Conference taking place in Glasgow that same month, Doing Zero is an exploration of the link between climate change and food by two local neighbourhoods – Harpurhey in North Manchester and Kawangware in West Nairobi. Community members in the two cities took part in joint workshops with climate experts and creatives to figure out what local people can do in their own communities to play their part in the battle to save the planet. *DoingZero.com is a collaboration between Design Manchester and Nairobi Design Week. She breaks down the environmental impact of each food, so we can see where the emissions are highest. With this knowledge, we can make changes to our diet, reduce the greenhouse gas emissions so damaging to our planet and probably be healthier, too. "No kitchen should be without this engaging, carefully researched and practical guide to the carbon in our food." **\- Professor Mike Berners-Lee, author of *How Bad are Bananas* and *There is no planet B*** *"…a levelheaded, clear, and detailed picture of food emissions - a basic literacy we should all have"* ***\- Peter Kalmus, climate scientist at NASA JPL, author of Being the Change: Live Well and Spark a Climate Revolution*** *"Wonderful, fact-filled, readable and full of clear explanations of the emissions associated with everything we eat. I’ll never look at spaghetti bolognese in the same way again."* **\- Sir David Spiegelhalter, Winton Professor of the Public Understanding of Risk, University of Cambridge** *DoingZero.com is a collaboration between Design Manchester and Nairobi Design Week. So says Professor Sarah Bridle, an astrophysicist at Jodrell Bank, University of Manchester who has turned her attention from the stars to saving our own planet. In this workshop Sarah will explain the emissions that are caused by human eating habits, and some of the ways we can start tackling that. What does that mean in Manchester? How does it affect what we do in our daily lives in Nairobi? The participants look both at themselves and through the looking-glass at their counterparts in a distant land, learning from each other and joining together in the battle against climate change. **This workshop took place on the morning of Saturday 4th September.** *DoingZero.com is a collaboration between Design Manchester and Nairobi Design Week. Ukulima tech walks us through the importance of food security in an increasingly urban society. They make a case for the vulnerability of the food system using the engaging string exercise. It is able to demonstrate the various touchpoints our food engages with before arriving on our plates. Also revealing how a fault in a single touchpoint brings the entire system to its knees. After making a case for urban farming, Ukulima tech then showed us how to make it happen. Demonstrating two methods of making small footprint gardens for urban settings. Watch their video explaining why and how they do what they do. growing urban population with traceable & quality food products. *DoingZero.com is a collaboration between Design Manchester and Nairobi Design Week. Such as the South African Apartheid movement or the Bauhaus movement.** **Ecological Disaster is a cause of great uncertainty, thus we can use this to create great artworks by reaching into the past.** **By using a standard font, people from across the globe and create works and be instantly recognisable as belonging to the same movement** **Extinction Rebellion is not a Do-It-Yourself movement, It's a Do-It-Together Movement.** **This means there is a heavy focus on sharing methods and resources and allowing others to do the design work and make it happen.
